Joe Cocker the Wildman

Wednesday, October 28, 2009

Ah Wednesday. Watching Do The Right Thing and vaguely looking for jobs. I feel like I've been looking for jobs constantly for 2 years. Having jobs, looking for other jobs. Over and over again.

This happened this week. I was safe (again? 3 times in a row?), but my boss was not so lucky. And we keep on going.

I've been a bad blogger. I haven't really felt the blog urge. My hours are weird. Up late, falling asleep on the couch at 6pm. The lack of structure is a change, but yet I feel calm. This is new. I'm unshakable. Who knew?

I turned 28. Can you believe it. I blinked and I went from 22 to 28. What has happened in the nearly 6 years I've been on the East Coast? WHO KNOWS.

Saw Where the Wild Things Are. Saw Dent May, Let's Wrestle, Pete & the Pirates, Black Whales, The Maldives, The Whore Moans, Surf City and Dutchess & the Duke during CMJ. Nothing impressed me that much, but it was good to catch up with friends.

I spend most Sundays eating brunch with Brooke and then watching musicals and Disney movies on her projector.

I eat way more deli sandwiches than I could ever have imagined.

I love living alone (never imagined in a million years that I would be able to) but DO get lonely.. sometimes. Other times I'm quite content curled up on the couch with netflix or making a dinner for myself.

So much cleaner about everything. I'm learning adult habits.

Loryn still manages to amaze me. We talk about our stupid teenage selves and our stupid current selves. I told her to come back to WA and we would visit her old house on the huge hill.

I am happy to live so close to Douglas, but miss Nate.

Upcoming visitors: Jon, Elianna, Aunt Nancy.

I need to join the gym. This week. No excuses.

So many museums I need to go to, places I need to see. Focus focus focus...

Where is a nice fellow? Hmm?

lolz

My friend on Frightened Rabbit:

(3:31:01 PM): i can't related to that band
(3:31:11 PM): and don't get me wrong, i'm very unhappy

I'd imagine that this is what it's like to be on drugs

Officially one week in! Apartment is put together.. except perhaps my bedroom, which is still partially littered with clothes and is not too decorated yet.

My apartment location has proven quite nice - very quiet, with only a few crazy old women on the block.. and the fact that my landlord's son runs laps above my head at all hours doesn't bug me too much since he's still adorable.

I'm about 10 mins from the subway, Manhatten Ave. and Maria's place (which means sharing a cab is easy!)

Monday, the day before Lindsay left, we watched GG and got drinks at Enid's - the next day it was the Twilight Sad show at Bowery.. which we missed the two openers cause we got a bit distracted and then a bit lost.. whoops. Already have run into friends randomly on the street and at shows. Love it.

I stayed in last night, fell asleep during Rosemary's Baby only to wake up at the point that they were screaming about the child being from the devil. I checked my closet for monsters in my room.. eek.

Tonight I'm a-job-hunting - set up my wireless router, so work won't be spent typing on the couch or my bed.

Interview tomorrow! I applied today and they called me a couple hours later - which I hope is a good sign. It's a programming manager position for online/mobile radio.. in my range of experience.. so we will see.. May need it after next week.

My friend Elly is coming to visit next month.. Well, she's coming for a wedding, which I am now her date for, and doing some meetings. She's going to interview me for her podcast and it will likely be embarrassing.

Tomorrow I am hanging out with my dearest Loryn! Taking myself to Ellis Island on Saturday to learn about immigrants.. fun fun!

So I made it! All in one piece! With all of my belongings included!

Magically, my move well incredibly smooth (except that last 15 minutes getting into Brooklyn where I forgot which was left and which was right cause I was so excited to get here.) I drove the 10 foot Budget truck the 4+ hours it took to get here, and did a pretty excellent job - even Doug was impressed. Overbought at Ikea, fit everything down the stairs..

Took the first night and next half day to put things togethe/away (except my clothes, which are still on the floor.)

Friday night Lindsey and Maria came over for wine, before we went to meet up with a bunch of people at Nita Nita, and then stopped by Daddy's.

Saturday was brunch with Brooke, Mads (finally met him!) and Kasey at Habitat. Fell asleep during Reality Bites, went grocery shopping, fell asleep during Rosemary's Baby - slept for like 9 more hours.. I guess the moving tired me out.

Yesterday I met Lindsay for lunch at Essex, which is an insanely loud and busy eatery on the LES.. Guess who we saw when we were leaving?

Daniel V from Project Runway! What a dream boat.

Pickle Day was going on on Orchard, so we met up with Brooke, Mads, Noelle and Emma.. Ate some pickles and some pickles beets, some mustard and some whipped honey. Basically it was a celebration of pickled things.. and more?

Then we took a long long walk to the South Seaport and caught the free ferry to Govenor's Island - 10 minute trip away. It was a gorgeous day to walk around - and there happened to be a jazz-age celebration happening.. which meant lots of 20's and 30's garb..

I was on a sepia kick : )

Govenor's Island used to be used to protect the harbor and house military personnel. Lots of old closed up brick buildings. My favorite.

Got back and headed to Union Sq to meet up with Doug and Matt, who were watching the 49er's game at some bar filled with insane fans. Like crazy testosterone fans.. It was fairly entertaining, even despite my lack of football knowledge.

Headed back to Brooklyn for a late dinner with Spindler - then finally home after a long long great day.

I love it here, have I mentioned that?
