music machinery, verbal wizardry

I did the responsible thing and actually took and uploaded pics from the last few days.

First, here is Mako playing at TT's on Wednesday. I took photos but most of them turned out blurry. I think I do better with bands that don't move around. My photo skillz are not too amazing.

Then of course was karaoke on Friday, where I really think I captured Nellie's performance

And of course Jon climbing on things he shouldn't be climbing on

Last night I went to Laura's for dinner. We went a little nuts with her "photo booth" application on her new computer..

My computer will also have this amazing photobooth ability.. as WELL as video chat. Ahah I may never leave the house again!

After some chili and living room dancing, we went over to GS for a Basstown DJ night. It was a good time, but I realize that I am not really a big techno dance fan.. Gimme sugar sweet power pop any day. Regardless, we saw some people and danced a bit. At 1:30 or so the whole block lost power, so the party ended. Laura and I got pizza in the dark and by the time we got back, the power was on and we watched Party of Five.

I crashed on Laura's couch last night wearing the most amazing blanket/poncho. Today I went to Goodwill, which is sorta becoming an every weekend occurance.. I ran into Nellie there and we scoped out the books. I managed to find a copy of John Stossel's book and I am very excited to read it.

I am nearly done with reading this book Thunderstruck! which details the invention of wireless communication and the role it played in a murder investigation. Sounds completely nerdy, but it's been a good read. Pretty gruesome to be honest.. and this is coming from someone who watches a lot of Court TV.

This upcoming week is pretry lo-key so far, except for mr. Jens Lekman coming back into town. Hopefully next time you hear from me, i'll be writing from my new computerrrrrr ahahaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

New Mac is on the way! Will arrive next week and I will spend every waking moment re-stealing music from the internet and making too much of my life public. Flickr will be in fuller effect and life will be good good good.

I did karaoke last night. Sang White Rabbit and had throngs of adoring fans. I'm half kidding. Someone did say that I made them want to a lot of hallucinagenic drugs, which is the biggest compliment a girl could get! Made Jon stop climbing on construction equipment. Woke up with headache. Eep. Watched part of Gyspy while burrowed in a blanket on the couch at 10am.

Tonight going to GS and eating dinner at Laura's. I only get out to GS once a month or so now, so I hope I can at least see Carl and Tim tonight. The rest will be female djs and female photographers and all sorts of other female crap. Hooray for being a girl night.

Hunter is in Italy. I think. Hopefully he made it?!

That is your update for now.

text from Hunter: After we are all lying dead, I struggle up and get shot in the head.

Last night as I walked near Faneuil hall I heard a mom say the following to her teenage son: WHAT, SO YOU CAN GO SHOOT MORE HEROIN??

I would blame this on living in a city, but I have a feeling this conversation goes on in Bremerton all the time, just replace "heroin" with "meth."

I went to a fundraiser for my co-workers Boston Marathon running. I didn't win anything in the raffle, which disproves my "always a winner" hypothesis.

After I went and met up with Laura, Ali, Ricardo and Moby at Kingston Station, which might be my favorite restaurant/bar around here. At fact of which I told the bartender, and the GM. A couple times. Hey! I like making new friends!

Two Recipes I Made Up

Mediterranean Inspired Lasanga

1 box of no boil pasta (cause who has time to boil?)
1 jar of tomato sauce (your choice)
1 bag of spinach
1 container of feta (save about 1/3 for the top)
1 container of ricotta
3-4 cups of mozzarella
1 cup whole pitted kalamata olives

Use a square or rectangular pan of your choice. Remember that if you make a bigger batch, you may need to alter the amount of ingredients above!

Pour about a cup of sauce in the bottom of the pan. Layer the pasta on top, they can overlap slightly. Mix feta and ricotta in a bowl. Spread on top of pasta and sprinkle mozzarella on top. Then cover the layer in spinach. Half the olives and sprinkle over the spinach. Pour another cup or so of sauce on top. Put another layer of pasta, ricotta-feta, mozzarella, spinach and olives and sauce. Put another layer of pasta, cover with the rest of the sauce. Cover the sauce with the remaining mozzarella and the rest of the feta.

Pre-heat the oven to about 400. Stick it in and bake it until it's smelling delicious and is all melty and good.

EAT.

Orange Dessert

I dreamt up a recipe last night. Literally. I haven't made it, so it might taste like throw up, but here it is:

(makes four servings I think)

2 large oranges
1 tbls cinnamon
1 tbls nutmeg
1 tbls sugar
1 tbls of whatever other spices you like.

4 nice scoops of ice cream or sorbet (I would stick to vanilla or plain chocolate, but it's up to you)
orange zest (if you'd like)
orange liqueur (if you want)

Heat the oven to 425 degrees. Cut oranges in half. Sprinkle each of them with spices and sugar. Place on a baking pan face down. Let them roast. Once they look delicious (as in not burned) remove them and let them cool for a bit.

Scoop out the pulp and clean out the peel until it looks like a little bowl. Put the pulp (but not the weird white rind stuff that separates the sections) in a blender or fruit processor with some orange liqueur and blend until it's a saucy consistency.

Make nice round scoops of the ice cream and put it in the orange "bowl" you've created. You can put some zest on top. Then pour over a bit of the orange sauce mixture you've made. SERVE!

Also, I thought you could perhaps make a puff pastry lid to go on top of the ice cream to create some texture, but that's really up to you.

Thank you for reading. If I ever make this recipe, I will let you know how it tastes.

The fixed computer thing was only a myth. No sooner had I started
downloading music and updating my software, that my mac decided to jump
ship again. Now it's just an apple with a swirly thing beneath it for
hours on end.

I got an hour and a half long hair cut on Tuesday. Shag was in need of a hair model, so I volunteered myself and (accidentally)
walked the two miles to the studio to get my free cut. My stylist was
trying to learn a new method, so she was working closely with her boss
as she went through the cut. I managed to learn a lot about hair and
how to do it properly (follow the natural curve of the head!) and ended
up with a well cut head of hair. It's not too drastically different,
just really shaped and evened out. I even brought product to put in it.
Ooo.

Wednesday Hunter and I saw Be Kind Rewind, which I was fairly unimpressed by. I like Michel Gondry, but this movie was too lackluster. This is the first time I've been completely convinced a movie is going ot be amazing based on the preview and been proven totally wrong. Oh well.

Thursday we had a roommate dinner at Christophers. I've managed to eat there about 5 times more than I ever did before Jon moved here. Their Yuppy Nachos are pretty damn good. Goat and jack cheese and sundried tomatoes? Hellz yes.

Friday was Cat's party and it was a grand time. I even brought along the ol' camera. Hunter got his German hair cut that day, which prompted the ingenious idea of a hot dog stand called Anne's Franks.

Here is Pete with his birthday lady Cat

And here is Hunter trying to eat my head

These are the cats I got for Cat

Hunter and Pete discussing something

Beer, sangria and some weird sugary licorice liquor

I woke up this morning and made the lasagna I had intended to bring to Nellie's last night. It's a greek inspired lasagna, with feta, spinach and kalamata olives. We will see!

Doug is coming into town on Wednesday and I think we're going to check out Grotto's Pre-fixe
menu. Hunter's going to be filming that day, so we may have a special
guest Alex with us as well. Alex is Hunter's brother and is gonna be in
town most of the week (with his awesomegf!)

I think that's it for me.
